WHAT AGE DO KIDS LEARN TO TELL TIME?
Around the age of five or six, most youngsters should be able to tell the time on an analog clock. However, younger kids will struggle since they have not yet mastered basic math abilities. This will also depend on the parents and teachers of the kids. Some teach their kids earlier than others. But, once they reach learning about all the numbers and counting, it should be easier to teach them then.
Other parents may be hesitant to begin teaching their children how to tell time since the method appears to be complex to explain. However, as a kid’s mind develops, its neural connections become more capable of comprehending topics that are too advanced for them.

TIPS FOR TEACHING A CHILD TO READ A CLOCK
Teaching kids how to read a clock and tell the time can be difficult at times, here are some tips that might help aside from using the telling time worksheets below:
- Parts of a Clock
Explain and show them the different parts of a clock – the short hand, the long hand, the second hand, the numbers, and the dots or lines in between them. The same goes for the analog clock. That way it would be easier to explain to them how a clock works.
- Be Patient
They are not going to memorize it in one go, be patient and start off with something simple. For example, every morning show them a specific time like 8 o’clock. Every time they will see the hands of the clock pointing at 8 and 12 they will know it is 8 o’clock.
- Step by Step
Teach them things one at a time. You can begin with teaching them hourly times before jumping to the minutes.
