WHAT ARE THE BASIC SHAPES?

The basic shapes are also known as fundamental geometric figures. These different shapes are frequently used as building blocks in both mathematics and design. The following shapes below are a few of the most typical basic shapes:

CIRCLE

A circle is a perfectly rounded shape where every boundary point is equally spaced from the center. Its radius, which is the distance from the center to any point on the boundary known as the diameter, serves as its defining characteristic. The diameter is typically twice as large as the radius.

SQUARE

A square is a polygon with four equal sides and four right angles at 90 degrees. Congruent sides and angles are present. The lengths of the opposite sides are equal and the opposite sides are parallel.

TRIANGLE

The number of sides a triangle has is three. A triangle’s interior angles are always added up to 180 degrees. Triangles can be categorized according to the size of their sides and angles. Two sides and two angles are equal in an equilateral type, two sides and two angles are equal in an isosceles type, and all sides and angles are different in a scalene type.

RECTANGLE

A rectangle is a polygon that has four right angles and opposite sides that are of equal length. The adjacent sides are perpendicular to one another, and the opposite sides are parallel. The sides’ lengths can vary, but they are always equal on the opposite side.

HEART

The shape of a heart is a representation of love or affection. It frequently resembles a stylized human heart because of its curved shape and top cleft.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANCED SHAPES?

Advanced shapes are geometrical objects that are more intricate than basic shapes and are derived from or built upon them. Here are some of the examples of advanced shapes:

ELLIPSE

A curved shape that resembles a flattened circle is an ellipse. It has two axes – a major axis and a minor axis. These 2 intersect at the center of the object. There is no fixed distance from the center to the edge.

PARALLELOGRAM

Having opposite sides that are both parallel and of equal length, a parallelogram is a four-sided polygon. A parallelogram also has equal opposite angles.

TRAPEZOID

A quadrilateral with at least one pair of parallel sides is known as a trapezoid or trapezium. The bases are the parallel sides, and the legs are the other two sides. Varying angles can be seen between the bases and the legs.

FRACTALS

Fractals are intricate, repetitive patterns or shapes that display fine detail at various scales. They are created using recursive mathematical algorithms and can have structures that are infinitely complex.

3D SHAPES

Advanced shapes in three dimensions include volumetric objects like cubes, spheres, cylinders, pyramids, cones, prisms, and more. These geometrical forms have length, width, and height.
