“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

This verse says that if we practice unconditional forgiveness, we can obey the command to “rejoice always.” Joy is blocked by a bitter, unforgiving spirit just as much as a dam blocks a river. This does not mean to pray all day everyday. Instead, let’s pray frequently and continually. We should turn to God in prayer no matter how happy or how struggling we are.

3. Mark 11:24 (ESV)

“Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours”

The key aspect in our relationship with God is faith. According to Jesus, if you have faith, you are able to command a mountain to descend into the water. He also instructed people to make requests in His name and to make sure that their prayers are in line with God’s will.

4. Psalm 145:18 (ESV)

“The Lord is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.”

This verse honors the power of God and goodness. God’s mighty, gracious acts reveal to us his superlative nature. The Lord especially takes care of the hungry and the broken. And yet, he is “close to all who call on him” and “filled with kindness” for everyone. Prayer draws us closer to God. This also assures us that He listens to us.

5. Matthew 6:7-8 (ESV)

“And when you pray, do not heap up empty phrases as the Gentiles do, for they think that they will be heard for their many words.Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.”

Jesus reassures His disciples that they should pray to God in the same way that they would talk to their fathers, who is aware of their needs and recognizes them. And not in the manner that the Gentiles pray, which is filled with pointless repetitions and long prayers that lack any sense of relationship.
