WHY USE A BOOKMARK?
I know a lot of people don’t use bookmarks. Instead of a bookmark they just turn down the corner of the page they are reading. This is called dog-earing the page.
There is actually a long-standing debate between people who use bookmarks and those who don’t. It seems like a silly debate to me, but hey…I guess it is important to some people!
Dog-earing the pages of a book can cause a lot of damage to that page. The crease you put in the page will be there forever. If you own the book then it is your prerogative, but if you have borrowed the book from the library or a friend it isn’t very nice to fold the corners of the page.
WHAT ARE PRINTABLE BOOKMARKS?
Printable bookmarks are bookmarks that have been designed to be printed off on a home printer.
Some come with pretty colorful designs on them. Other printable bookmarks are black and white and are made for you to color them yourself!
I am always amazed at how expensive bookmarks can be at the store. They seem to get easily lost at my house too.
Printable bookmarks are an inexpensive way to hold the place in your book and add some style at the same time.
SIMPLE GIFT IDEA
You can turn a printable bookmark into a simple gift idea that could be put into a birthday card.
Print off the bookmark and then use a small hole punch to add a hole at the top end of the card. Tie some ribbon or fringe at the hole and give the pretty bookmark away to friends or relatives.
